The Mavis Berry School of Dance was established in 1953.
Mavis Berry being an only child was encouraged by her mother at an early age to learn classical ballet. Her mother new that ballet would improve her confidence, give her discipline, poise and help to maintain her physical well being.
After gaining her qualifications in ballet from her teacher Peggy Wilson who was an examiner with the British Ballet Organization, Mavis decided to open her own school in Leyland, the town where she was born.
Helen Allen the daughter of Mavis Berry has played a large role in developing the Theatre side of the school. Once having gained her qualifications in Modern Theatre with the ISTD, Helen has assisted in introducing the modern and tap into the school and has continued to create and choreograph many pieces of work for shows and events.
Helen is also very proud to have successfully trained many students at the school who have ventured into the profession of dance and musical theatre.
As well as teaching at the dance school Helen has also been involved in projects with some of the local junior schools in her area.
